Bamboo Plant Privacy Fence Choices

Bamboo plant privacy fences are becoming increasingly popular. This exotic shrub is fast growing, has many desirable characteristics and can be used to create stunning garden plants as well as fences. Bamboo is known as the fastest growing tree and grows up to 30 feet per year. It has a straight growth habit and is easy to maintain.

This lush plant can also be used as privacy screens and other decorative landscaping features. Bamboo comes in a variety of beautiful shades of brown and it can be grown just about anywhere with hardly any need for special consideration. You can place these beautiful trees either along your garden path or a back-garden. There are many different types of flowering and fruit trees that you can grow with this exotic shrub. Some of the most popular ones include:

‘Bamboo Shrub’ (Celastrus ‘Ricinus communis’) – This large evergreen is ideal for landscaping in back yards or gardens. It is a member of the ‘juniper’ family and is native to China, Tibet and the Himalayas. It is one of the fastest growing trees in its category. The main trunk of the bamboo shoots up straight and thick and there is a ‘cloudy’ margin around the main trunk. The leaves are needle-like and oval-shaped.

‘Red Raspberry Bush’ (Rubus idaeus) – This perennial herb is native to Europe, northern Asia and Africa. It has a grayish purple color and grows to about two feet tall. It is a beautiful ornamental shrub and blooms during the spring. It flowers when the weather is warm and the temperature is near freezing. You will find red raspberry plants used for landscaping in the wild because they have very sensitive roots and will not tolerate frost.

‘Striped Blackberry Plants’ (Rosa cordifolia) – These plants come from the same family as blackberry plants but they do not have the blackberry scent. They are easy to grow and produce pink flowers. They are grown for their fragrance rather than for their edible parts. The flowers are very nice. You can create a ‘rivallancy’ effect by mounting the stems of the stripsed blackberry plants between pillars or other structures to create a fence.

‘Blooming Service’ – These flowering trees are perfect for creating privacy if you want some shade in your garden. They are evergreen and slow growing but very desirable for landscaping due to their fine needles which bring out a vibrant color. The flowers are very large and white or cream colored. The leaves are wide with a dark green appearance. These trees are found in Asia and are slow growing due to their sensitivity to dampness and cold temperatures.

‘Shade Grown White Oak Tree’ – This is a slower growing shade tree. They are perfect for privacy as they grow slowly and spread fairly quickly. They have straight, narrow branches that grow in a tight pattern. They prefer full shade in summer. This is a hardy tree that likes the shade in the north.

These are just three of the many types of bamboo that can be used to create a privacy type fence. There are many other varieties of bamboo that would be equally attractive along with a few poplar trees that would add color and style. A fence made of bamboo is usually easy to assemble although you may want to hire someone to put it up for you. They can be put up in a day or two depending on how fast you want them to grow. The good news is that you can keep the price down by growing your own bamboo.
