Can I Build a 6 Feet Fence in My Front Garden?

“Can I build a six foot fence in my front garden?” This usually comes up when people want to enclose their backyards from the garden. Unfortunately, they may not realize that this is actually an extremely difficult project. A fence can be a very simple and inexpensive addition to your landscaping ponds or can be a very complex and expensive addition. In order to really understand what it takes to build a six-foot fence, it is important to understand how it works and what type of materials are best for it.

A six foot fence is defined as being around six feet in either direction. Any shorter than this would be considered inadequate. It is very easy to build a fence even if it is shorter than the standard requirement because there are many different types of fences available. Many landscaping companies offer a variety of fences such as chain link, vinyl fencing and vinyl grass fencing.

One of the biggest challenges is working with your local council to get permission for a fence. There are many factors that can limit the approval of a fence in any given area. Some of these factors include height, type of material to be used, visual appeal, privacy and visibility. For example, if you want to build a fence around a garden pond, then you should only use solid wood or something that will not be easily spotted from the road.

Another big factor is the type of material used. While many people use chain link and vinyl fencing, other materials such as stone, brick, timber and concrete are also available. Using a material that is unsuitable for the location can mean that you have to spend a lot of time trying to cover up the defects and this can take away from the overall look of your garden.

There are two main factors that you need to consider when choosing the type of material you want to use for your fence. One is the appearance and the second is practicality. Chain link and vinyl fencing will both look good, but one of them is not as strong as the other. Stone is stronger than timber but will need to be anchored in a strong area. Concrete is stronger than stone but has to be cemented into a base that is flat.

Your layout will determine the type of fence that you can build. A small patio or deck would be suited by a vinyl or chain link fence. If you have a large garden, then you may need to surround it with timber or some type of stone fencing. On a small patio, a sixft fence would look great. However, if you have a long narrow garden with many trees, then using timber or stone is probably the best option.

The next thing you need to decide is how high you want your fence to be. You should be able to clearly see through your fence from the house so do not try to make it too low. However, there are some types of fencing that are only three feet tall, which is fine if you don’t mind having dogs or cats that have to jump over it. If you do not want any pets at all, then a three-foot high fence will be sufficient.

Once you have decided on the material, you can start building. Make sure that you do not block any of the sunlight that comes into your garden. This will be very dangerous, as you will not be able to give the plants the needed light. If you can, do try to place your fence at the highest possible point in the garden. This will also provide a greater view to your garden.
