May's Landscaping Tips

Landscaping ideas for your yard are cheap, easy, and guaranteed to turn heads.

Having a Fish Pond on Your balcony

If you are not acquainted with the art of landscaping ponds, here is a quick introduction. Fish ponds, as their name suggests, attract aquatic animals like fish. Having such a pond at your home can be very relaxing and soothing, aside from giving you the chance to indulge in all the outdoor activities there are.

First, check where exactly the balcony fish pond Feng Shui is placed. The area of the balcony must be in harmony with the main purpose of the pond – to attract fish. The best place for the pond is to be on the side or rear of the house, depending on the view you have.

The azimuth of the fish pond must also be in harmony with that of the main architecture of the house. In order to achieve this, consult with an expert. You can either hire one to do the whole job for you or do it yourself using blueprints or a model. The latter is recommended if you are not very much adept with landscape gardening. However, it takes longer, especially when it comes to putting up a full-fledged garden, such as that of a waterfall or a fountain.

Once you have decided where to put the balcony fish pond design, remember to choose its shape wisely. A small pond will not do your house any good. You need one that will not be too cramped or will not take up an inordinate amount of space. For instance, a waterfall may be very beautiful and breathtaking, but if it takes up too much space on your balcony, it will just be a plain and ordinary addition, rather than being a focal point of attraction.

There are many materials to use in your balcony fish ponds and landscape fish ponds, from concrete to stone and clay. Clay and stone are by far the most common and are quite pleasing to the eye. Concrete however tends to be a bit sturdier, although it is more expensive. A lot of people decide to go with concrete for their balcony fish ponds and landscape ponds because they have a tendency to last longer. They are also less prone to stains, since cement is a natural substance. Stone ponds tend to look dull, although they are available in different colors.

When it comes to your balcony fish pond design, you can either choose to have your pond installed with a power graphite electrode or with a conventional pump. The choice is completely up to you and depends on your budget as well as what kind of installation you prefer. Power graphite electrodes, which use a cable to deliver the electricity, are much more reliable. However, they can be a bit expensive if you want a huge pond, especially if you decide to opt for an elaborate design. Conventional pumps are cheaper, but they require regular maintenance and this may prove to be more expensive.

If you decide to use a conventional pump with your landscape pond, make sure that you get one that comes with a backup electrode as well. If your main power goes out, you need to be able to get some electricity supplied by a battery. A backup electrode hole allows you to continue using the same pond even if your pond’s electricity fails. The installation process may not be as simple as you think it is and there are a few things that you need to consider first. This is why it would be best to hire an expert to install your pond and landscape ponds using a conventional model or a power graphite electrode.

Your choice of a pump must have the capacity to draw electricity from the main voltage and must also have sufficient horsepower. If you are using a conventional model, make sure that the model comes with a built in backup electrode hole and this is necessary if you are going to use a larger pond. There are a few things that you should consider before you decide to install one of these landscape ponds and one of them is the size of the pump you are planning to buy. Remember that the larger the pump you get, the lower the cost of installation will be.
