Poisonous Plants You Should Avoid In Your Landscaping

Of all the plants for landscaping, not many people realize that a lot of the good ones are poisonous. Here is some information to help you avoid those plants and save your family.

Cactus. Some are quite poisonous, especially the cacti. They are the perfect place for someone who doesn’t know their way around to take something really big and dangerous, with a taste for human flesh. In the desert it’s possible to get eaten alive.

Ferns. Some are nice, but others are poisonous. If you have ever found yourself near a patch of poison ferns, know that you are in very dangerous territory.

Azaleas. The flower has a low-growing habit and is found all over the world. It is attractive and decorative, but it also has an unpleasant habit of releasing a sweet smelling oil when crushed. This oil can cause irritation and has the tendency to burn the eyes. Azaleas also contain harmful pesticides.

Eucalyptus. Often grown for its beautiful foliage, Eucalyptus is also a plant that has dangerous chemicals. For example, Eucalyptus can contain the same insecticides as the pesticide DDT. It can also cause problems with the circulatory system. This tree also contains toxic levels of mercury, arsenic, antimony, bromine, lead, thallium, and strychnine.

Avena. This is another tree that grows well in all kinds of climates but is considered a noxious weed because of its ability to spread through the air and cause respiratory issues. So, if you plan on having an outdoor event, make sure that you clean up the garden. If the flowers are edible, do so now, before they become deadly.

Rooibos. A weed that is not often considered a plant for landscaping, but can be dangerous to the health of a newcomer. If a person that is new to the area gets exposed to rue, sage, and broom a very pleasant side effect can occur – vomiting.

Borage. If this herb has been confused with parsley, it is a different kind of herb. It is known to cause stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, lack of energy, and other symptoms.

Aloe Vera. Aloe vera is used in many other products, but it is also used in such products as chapstick, hand lotion, and sun screen.

Jasmine. These are flowers that cause a tingling sensation on the tongue and cause a burning feeling in the throat. If you have a fainting problem, there is nothing to be relieved. Run, don’t walk away from these blossoms.

Ground Covers. These plants can bring bad luck. For instance, sage has the potential to increase a person’s heart rate and cause heart attacks. If you go to the bathroom in a dark basement, there is a chance that you might slip and fall.

These are just a few examples of plants for landscaping. You have to learn how to look for them, and keep away from them.
